The Hot Snow is the former national prison of the USA before being succeeded by Owcatraz. Security of The Hot Snow is not tight, which was a main factor for the change of national prison. The successor to Prison de Eastshield, The Hot Snow is still the state prison of Eastshield. The signboard which reads 'The Hot Snow' has collapsed onto the fourth floor, which is another famous feature The Hot Snow has.

Most of the prisoners have been shifted to Ban Island or Owcatraz. Those who escape would either be at Ban Island or 90-150 Island.

History[]

Prison de Eastshield, the former four-storey complex which houses prisoners from Eastshield at the time, had just celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2003. This arose concern for the security of the prison, in which the prison could no longer hold all 1323 prisoners. Therefore, to ease load of the prison, a new one had to be constructed in yet another deserted location in Eastshield.

The new four-storey complex was designed to have state-of-the-art lockout systems, extremely strong bars and so forth and so on. However, the government focused on another subject on the time, thus they did not pay much attention to the project, funded it minimally, and eventually the prison was a whole lot worse than its original design. Its opening in late 2004 brought in half the amount of prisoners from the preceding prison, along with several more who were kept in other crowded prisons. An extra prison was added to the thirteen prisons across Antarctica, bring the total number to fourteen.

Despite the poor security, prisoners rarely escape, or attempt to escape, the prison. It was only until 2006 did they start to do so. In 2006, the signboard that displayed the prison's name collapsed for the pillars supporting it gave in. The rooftop was neither strong nor protective, and the rooftop also came in, causing a domino effect. Eventually, only the rooftop and the fourth storey were crushed, with no casualties but many injuries. The damage still remains and is actually a popular tourist spot. Those who wish to get up close had to pay a fee, which would be used to further improve the Hot Snow's security system.

Prisoners who saw the opportunity would sneak out, and the sirens emitted would either be unheard or simply ignored, for most thought it was the frequent drilling. A total of 30 prisoners escaped in 2007, The Penguin Times reported. 27 of these prisoners were caught and returned to jail, while the other three simply died due to lack of food.
